Why do we fear anaesthesia?
When going for a surgery, anaesthesia is a normal procedure. Most people fear if everything will be alright when the time comes for waking up after surgery. There is a suspicion that something might go wrong. Is anaesthesia safe?
This question might have been posed 30 years ago, when the complete art of anaesthesia was not so developed. Nowadays it is completely safe, and there is no room for complications. The development of technology and pharmaceutical industry helps a lot in this area of medicine. Anaesthesiologist carefully monitors the patient’s state through various devices and can react instantly if something goes wrong. The patient has the right to be introduced to his anaesthesiologist before the operation . Anaesthesia today works on a principle ‘’fast track’’, which focuses on fast recovery from operation and being able to let the patient go home at the same day as the surgery was finished. Anaesthesiologists should be regarded as our guardian angels during our sleep. They will protect you from any kind of complication during surgery and even warn the surgeon so that any mistake can be avoided. Before going to surgery you can speak to your anaesthesiologist freely and express your own expectation of the anaesthesia and discuss possible problems or if you’re feeling uneasy. It is the duty of the anaesthesiologist to make you immune to pain and it helps him a lot if you cooperate.
